The Ranger's Uniform 1/4 Zip Sweater
Ranger's Uniform 1/4 Zip Sweater
Description
DETAILS
CONTEMPORARY DESIGN WITH CONVERTIBLE ZIP-UP COLLAR. Wear it open as as a ½ Zip with the collar folded, or as a funnel neck with the zipper fully deployed.
VERSATILE STYLE FIT FOR VARIOUS WARING OCCASIONS. You’ll go seamlessly from the marsh to the boat, to the main office…and no one will notice or question which location you’ve last been.
SOFT ENOUGH TO WEAR COMFORTABLY AGAINST YOUR SKIN. It’s rare to find a sweater that feels both beefy and is ultra-soft. Extra fine Merino wool makes this so. Zero itch guaranteed.
THICK, ROBUST, AND DURABLE. This is not a “handle-with-care” sweater (except when it comes to washing!)…it’s a piece of equipment built to perform in tough environments and handle whatever weather.
AN IDEAL EVERYDAY, GO ANYWHERE SWEATER – looks great, feels great, has excellent thermal management, and is equally equipped for indoors and outdoors as an outer layer or mid-layer.
TOPS OFF ANY PANT AND SHIRT COMBINATION. You won’t find yourself wondering what this sweater “goes with.” You put it on, it holds its shape and everything else falls in place.
LIMITED EDITION – Our 25th Anniversary Ranger's Uniform 1/4 Zip Sweater is a limited production run; each is marked with a unique serial number identifier. Built in Portugal.
The Ranger's Uniform 1/4 Zip Sweater was inspired by its sistership, the Ranger’s Uniform Sweater, circa 1996, by The Trustees of Reservations, Ipswich, Ma., the oldest conservation land trust in America, founded by Charles Eliot, in 1891. Their requirements were exacting. For it to be adopted as part of the Ranger’s Uniform, it had to be practical and serve double duty…indoors at headquarters in Ipswich and sturdy and warm enough to go it alone in the winters of the Massachusetts coastline.
The “Higherups” wanted one of their own.
Not long after the Ranger’s Uniform Sweater made it into
circulation among the field rangers at the Trustees of Reservations in Ipswich,
Ma, we started hearing chatter about building a version for the “higherups” in the office…guys that on occasion had to sport a jacket ‘n tie. “Same idea as the ranger’s sweater” they said, “but a cardigan style with a zipper or buttons, that we can wear in place of, and more practical than, the traditional
blue blazer.”
This didn’t have to become a complicated task…but of course, I turned it into one.
This week, we are reintroducing the original Ranger’s Uniform Cardigan
Sweater, a substantial bundle of yarn that has been heavily enhanced in both function and form. Many elements are identical to the Ranger’s Uniform Sweater: same Extra fine Italian Merino wool yarn, tightly knit Jersey stitch, fully-fashioned transfer stitches, reinforced DryHandle® elbow patches, and of course, the same inset
bi-swing shoulder gussets tucked in between the shoulder blade and the sleeve.
And that’s where these two builds part ways.
The Ranger’s Uniform Cardigan Sweater has a full length YKK Vislon zipper that zips past the throat up to the collar points, creating a functional funnel neck when fully deployed.
The zipper is protected with a wool-felt reinforced placket that is secured over the zipper with corozo buttons. From the throat to the chin, the zipper is articulated off-center and covered on the inside with a knitted chafe guard for comfort.
Two front, angled entry hand pockets along with 2x1 rib knit cuffs and waist keep it all in line.

People Usually Ask
1. Where are your products made?
All of our shirts, pants, outerwear, sweater, belts and moccasins are made in Portugal, mostly in the same shops we've been working with for over 25 years. Our hand-sewn leather goods, hats and a few other items are made in America.
2. How would you describe the fit of your clothes?
Our fit is what we call contemporary, meaning they're not overly baggy or boxy, but have ample room and freedom of movement. Also, our outerwear is uninsulated, or very lightly insulated. It's cut with enough room to allow you to layer underneath, with a sweater, a vest or even a light down-filled jacket. For us, layering is always the way to go!
3. Will your shirts and pants shrink after washing?
Simple answer is no. All of our shirts and pants are pre-shrunk. At most you will experience a 2% shrink factor after washing and drying.
4. What is DryHandle®?
Dryhandle® is a 100% cotton, weatherproof fabric that we develop in 1995. Starting with 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton the thread is very tightly woven resulting in a fabric so dense that it's thornproof and, even at this stage, surpasses the U.S. government test for rainwear. The fabric is then impregnated through the proprietary DryHandle® process which irreversibly transforms the cotton fibers themselves to make them inherently water-resistant and stain-resistant. Unlike oiled or waxed cotton fabrics, DryHandle® is extremely lightweight, has no odor, won't stain other clothing or upholstery and resists stains from hard use and long wear. Despite being water-resistant, the weave contains millions of microscopic pores that vent moisture, making DryHandle® garments exceptionally breathable and comfortable to wear.
5. How long does delivery usually take?
Orders received by 2pm PST are usually shipped the same day. In most cases we ship via USPS Priority Package, and orders to the East Coast typically arrive in 4 days or less. West of The Mississippi orders arrive in 2-3 days.
6. How do i reach the founder of the company?
Easy! You can email him (that would be me, Engle) at engle@atlanticrancher.com or you can call me at 206-919-0943. I am around most of the time, but i miss you, I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
7. If an item is out of stock will you let me when it's available again?
We maintain an active "wait list." So when you send a message asking to be notified when the item, color and size becomes available, we actually do something worthwhile with your request. We catalog your request and email you once the item becomes available again.
8. Who writes your copy and are the stories true?
The answer to the first part of this question is: me, Engle Saez, founder of the company. For part #2...there's an old adage that applies here: "you can't make this shit up." And I will just say that the stories I tell are as true as I can make them and as accurate as my memory allows. That's a true story...
9: Where did the name Atlantic Rancher come from?
The origins of our company's name is a long story, one will share in blog post at some point. But for now, all should know that we are forever grateful to Susan Turner for her original and very creative idea.
10: How do I return or exchange a item?
Returns are easy, but please follow our process. Email us at orders@atlanticrancher.com, include your order number in the subject line and tell us what you'd like to return and why. We'll review your return request and email you a RMA (return merchandise authorization) with the return-to shipping address. Please be sure to package your item(s) thoughtfully so goods aren’t damaged in the process. Select and use the carrier of your choice as return shipping is not covered by us. Please select “signature required” to ensure your return package is receipt confirmed.
We’ll let you know via email when your package has been received, inspected and your refund is issued. Refunds usually take 5-10 business days to process.
If you need to exchange an item, the best process is this: 1. Place a new order for the item you want. 2. Return the item you don't want to us, following the process outlined above.
