Anyone who’s ever spent a day at the Hudson Canyon in the North Atlantic on a scallop dragger, setting otter boards and tending the net will tell you: be ready to handle all four seasons of weather in just one day. The crews that call Viking Village home and steam out of Barnegat Inlet at the northern tip of Long Beach Island, NJ…well, they know a thing or two about a thing or two. Particularly, how to dress for these wild ass occasions. It’s October and peak of the scallop season and out here you dress in layers or suffer the consequences. And the one piece that’s forever part of this ensemble and common to every deckhand’s gear bag, is a sturdy, durable, 100% cotton hooded sweatshirt.
Our Hudson Canyon Hoodie Sweatshirt was built for days like this. Its weather-beaten look and feel are intentional and achieved by our proprietary sea-salt-wash treatment. Yes, real sea salt, Henlopen Sea Salt to be precise. The base fabric is a sturdy 20oz cotton, tightly knit for longevity and warmth. It’s prewashed, it won’t shrink, it’ll retain its shape yet has plenty of give. And, ok, I’ll say it…it’s soft, but only on the inside!
And please note, this is not your skinny-mini-hipster-tailored fashion hoodie meant for looking hip on your way to SBUX. Our Hudson Canyon Hoodie is cut Old School, full and broad through the sleeves and torso, perfect for layering over other shirts, and just right for under layering to a coat or your overalls. The center-seam hood is broad enough to accommodate headgear and sinches tight when needed with cotton cord. Two front handwarmer pockets do just that. Ribbed cuffs and waistband bring it all together, around your wrist and hips to keep the whatever out and you right and tight.

We don’t use a 3rd. fulfillment house to process your order. We pick, pack and ship all orders ourselves from our own warehouse. If we receive your order by 12pm PST, we usually ship it to you that day. Otherwise it will ship on the following business day.
Returns & Refunds
If you aren’t happy with what you’ve purchased from Atlantic Rancher, you may return it to us in like-new condition within 30-days of purchase and we’ll process a refund for the full purchase price of the item(s) being returned.
Returns after the normal 30-day window are for store credit only.
I love the quality and feel of this hoodie so much I bought all three clothes. The unique color wash and fiber content makes this hoodie worth every penny. The banding around the cuffs and bottom will take decades to break in. You will never buy another hoodie but you will buy another color.

This is a super high-quality hoodie. The material is really nice and has some weight to it....nothing cheap about it at all. The XL is perfect for my 6 foot, 215 lb frame. It's super comfortable, I can't stop wearing it.
Absolutely love it. I bought it for work and it doesn't disappoint. I can wear a sweatshirt under it for layering on cold days or just a shirt for normal days. Heavyweight and very well made. I have a 1/4 zip, a sweatshirt and now the zip and I highly recommend all. Also have a sweater and it can't be beat.

Hudson Canyon Hoodie
American Giant used to be good, but are now crap under new ownership. Flint and Timber have a fine fabric, but boxy, short in sleeve and overall length. Atlantic Rancher offers a great thick/solid fabric, longer sleeve/body and is simply the best product overall. The hood shape is awesome - bows out on sides and reminds me of the hoodie I used to rob liquor stores in...
I was so pleased with this hoodie. I've been looking for this type of zip sweatshirt for a long time. This quality used to be available back in the 70's. Very hard to find nowadays. Sure, you could buy four hoodies for what you'll pay for this beauty, but why? This is now my go to coat for spring and fall weather. The fit is spot on for a "large". The material is nice and thick with a very soft nap on the inside. Although the zipper is left over right (odd for men), it's easy to get used to. No gauche logos, just simple refined details throughout. Worth every penny. Will probably order one for my wife next.

Drawstring is way too long and the zipper is a lesser quality compared to the 1/4 zip.
I like the fit of this hoodie as it is not as baggy as a Carhartt. The fabric is thick and sturdy but the grey model is not 100% cotton as advertised, only 95%. One major drawback is the zipper. It is flimsy compared to the zipper on the 1/4 Zip which I recently purchased too. The zipper on the hoodie is on the left side of the garment which I am not used to…not really a problem but it tends to snag itself when I am zipping it.
Love the weight of the hoodie, the cuffs are perfect for under the Outlaw Gunner Jacket for layering. The fit is better than expected, kind of fitted around the middle and hem cuff, with plenty of room in the upper arms & chest. The hood itself is nice and large so it does a good job of keeping the breeze off your neck & face (also head if you happen to be bald). Only 4 stars due to the zipper. I hope in the future it is switched over the more widely used right side for the pull. In the month or so that I have had it, it still is an issue or at least a pause when I am putting it on/taking it off. I am afraid that I will end up having to replace the zipper at some point due to ham fisting it awkwardly.

Warm without being thick and heavy because of plush interior, so... really comfy. Relaxed fit but it fits. I'm 5'11'' 165 lbs, fit and muscular and the medium fits perfectly. Hard to find a fit like this today because everything is so slim. It's really roomy, but actually fits like it's supposed to, as opposed to just being too big, for like a larger human or someone with a larger gut. Hard to describe, but I feel like no one has made a sweatshirt like this in 30 years and I don't know if I know any company that has made a sweatshirt that fits like this in 100% cotton. Those sweatshirts in the 90's were all 50/50 blends. Can't necessarily fit it under a more fitted jacket but it's not really for that to me. Really nice to just throw on and feel relaxed. Like it's the kind of fit that makes you feel nonchalant and relaxed. But it's not in the way bunching with sleeves that are too long and all that. Great style when you want a break from the slim fitting sweatshirts. I will say the cuff seams were a little rough at first, but I took a light sandpaper and just softened them up a bit and now I don't notice it. Dont' know what that's about, but couldn't pass up the fit and the seams don't bother me now.
If you are looking for a thin light weight hoodie the Hudson Canyon Hoodie is not for you. If you are looking for a three season fleece lined warm hoodie then you have found the best hoodie out there! It is a true wear outside alone when it’s 40+ or as a layer under any of the Dock Chamois or Work shirts. This hoodie will also keep you warm inside when it’s sub freezing outside and need some extra warmth inside. I bought this hoodie in all three colors!
Quality craftsmanship. Warm. Comfy. All the hoodie goodness. No complaints whatsoever. Only thing it needs is to come in charcoal gray.
I first ordered a large since they didn't have the color that I wanted. Fits great, I'm a lanky 6'4 guy. I then ended up ordering an XL once they had the color back in stock only because I like a little baggy / larger. Both work great and they're now my go-tos! Haven't washed yet but they feel great. Also worth noting they shipped very promptly, thanks so much!

1. Where are your products made?
All of our shirts, pants, outerwear, sweater, belts and moccasins are made in Portugal, mostly in the same shops we've been working with for over 25 years. Our hand-sewn leather goods, hats and a few other items are made in America.
2. How would you describe the fit of your clothes?
Our fit is what we call contemporary, meaning they're not overly baggy or boxy, but have ample room and freedom of movement. Also, our outerwear is uninsulated, or very lightly insulated. It's cut with enough room to allow you to layer underneath, with a sweater, a vest or even a light down-filled jacket. For us, layering is always the way to go!
3. Will your shirts and pants shrink after washing?
Simple answer is no. All of our shirts and pants are pre-shrunk. At most you will experience a 2% shrink factor after washing and drying.
4. What is DryHandle®?
Dryhandle® is a 100% cotton, weatherproof fabric that we develop in 1995. Starting with 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton the thread is very tightly woven resulting in a fabric so dense that it's thornproof and, even at this stage, surpasses the U.S. government test for rainwear. The fabric is then impregnated through the proprietary DryHandle® process which irreversibly transforms the cotton fibers themselves to make them inherently water-resistant and stain-resistant. Unlike oiled or waxed cotton fabrics, DryHandle® is extremely lightweight, has no odor, won't stain other clothing or upholstery and resists stains from hard use and long wear. Despite being water-resistant, the weave contains millions of microscopic pores that vent moisture, making DryHandle® garments exceptionally breathable and comfortable to wear.
5. How long does delivery usually take?
Orders received by 2pm PST are usually shipped the same day. In most cases we ship via USPS Priority Package, and orders to the East Coast typically arrive in 4 days or less. West of The Mississippi orders arrive in 2-3 days.
6. How do i reach the founder of the company?

7. If an item is out of stock will you let me when it's available again?
We maintain an active "wait list." So when you send a message asking to be notified when the item, color and size becomes available, we actually do something worthwhile with your request. We catalog your request and email you once the item becomes available again.
8. Who writes your copy and are the stories true?
The answer to the first part of this question is: me, Engle Saez, founder of the company. For part #2...there's an old adage that applies here: "you can't make this shit up." And I will just say that the stories I tell are as true as I can make them and as accurate as my memory allows. That's a true story...
9: Where did the name Atlantic Rancher come from?
The origins of our company's name is a long story, one will share in blog post at some point. But for now, all should know that we are forever grateful to Susan Turner for her original and very creative idea.
10: How do I return or exchange a item?
Returns are easy, but please follow our process. Email us at orders@atlanticrancher.com, include your order number in the subject line and tell us what you'd like to return and why. We'll review your return request and email you a RMA (return merchandise authorization) with the return-to shipping address. Please be sure to package your item(s) thoughtfully so goods aren’t damaged in the process. Select and use the carrier of your choice as return shipping is not covered by us. Please select “signature required” to ensure your return package is receipt confirmed.
We’ll let you know via email when your package has been received, inspected and your refund is issued. Refunds usually take 5-10 business days to process.
If you need to exchange an item, the best process is this: 1. Place a new order for the item you want. 2. Return the item you don't want to us, following the process outlined above.
