THICK, ROBUST, AND DURABLE. This is not a “handle-with-care” sweater…it’s a piece of equipment built to perform in tough environments and handle whatever weather.

AN IDEAL EVERYDAY, GO ANYWHERE SWEATER – looks great, feels great, has excellent thermal management, and is equally equipped for indoors and outdoors as an outer layer or mid-layer.

TOPS OFF ANY PANT AND SHIRT COMBINATION. You won’t find yourself wondering what this cardigan “goes with.” You put it on, it holds its shape and everything else falls in place.

LIMITED EDITION – Our 25th Anniversary Ranger's Uniform Cardigan Sweater is a limited production run; each is marked with a unique serial number identifier. Built in Portugal.

The Ranger's Uniform Cardigan Sweater was inspired by its sistership, the Ranger’s Uniform Sweater, circa 1996, by The Trustees of Reservations, Ipswich, Ma., the oldest conservation land trust in America, founded by Charles Eliot, in 1891. Their requirements were exacting. For it to be adopted as part of the Ranger’s Uniform, it had to be practical and serve double duty…indoors at headquarters in Ipswich and sturdy and warm enough to go it alone in the winters of the Massachusetts coastline.

Product Story

The “Higherups” wanted one of their own.

Not long after the Ranger’s Uniform Sweater made it into
circulation among the field rangers at the Trustees of Reservations in Ipswich,
Ma, we started hearing chatter about building a version for the “higherups” in the office…guys that on occasion had to sport a jacket ‘n tie. “Same idea as the ranger’s sweater” they said, “but a cardigan style with a zipper or buttons, that we can wear in place of, and more practical than, the traditional
blue blazer.”

This didn’t have to become a complicated task…but of course, I turned it into one.

This week, we are reintroducing the original Ranger’s Uniform Cardigan
Sweater, a substantial bundle of yarn that has been heavily enhanced in both function and form. Many elements are identical to the Ranger’s Uniform Sweater: same Extra fine Italian Merino wool yarn, tightly knit Jersey stitch, fully-fashioned transfer stitches, reinforced DryHandle® elbow patches, and of course, the same inset
bi-swing shoulder gussets tucked in between the shoulder blade and the sleeve.

And that’s where these two builds part ways.

The Ranger’s Uniform Cardigan Sweater has a full length YKK Vislon zipper that zips past the throat up to the collar points, creating a functional funnel neck when fully deployed.
The zipper is protected with a wool-felt reinforced placket that is secured over the zipper with corozo buttons. From the throat to the chin, the zipper is articulated off-center and covered on the inside with a knitted chafe guard for comfort.

Two front, angled entry hand pockets along with 2x1 rib knit cuffs and waist keep it all in line.

Another winner from AR! After some back n forth on sizing & fit with Engle via email, I settled on going with the XXXL in Charcoal. The sweater arrived in a few days, East Coast from Seattle, and the first thing that struck me was just how heavy the package was when the Postman handled to me. Taking it out I was shocked when holding it by the collar that it was heavier than some leather jackets. Tried it on and couldn't be happier with the fit and finish. Thick, weighty, the cuffs and collar are on point. I appreciate the the HD zipper along with the solid buttons, you can really dial in how much you want to close it up. The following morning I gave it a first try heading out before sunrise with just a t shirt and AR's Bayman's Flannel under the Ranger. It was damp and in the low 40's and I was nice and toasty for the few hours I was out shooting sunrise. Cannot recommend this enough if you are looking for a warm and substantial sweater / jacket alternative.
Need to say a special thanks to Engle for the quick replies and guidance on sizing. Him and Victoria were packing to hit the road for a hunting trip and he still took the time to help me. The AR products are high quality; but it's that level of customer service that keeps me as repeat customer!

The pic was taken after I had gotten home from the first morning out shooting while wearing it.

My thoughts

Ranger's Uniform Cardigan Sweater is fantastic the fit and quality is supreme.
However I purchased to make up a set of two cartigans (button down & quarter zip. Why was the left shoulder patch made differently than what is all over your website site? Its larger and more overstated than as originally shown. Im not a fan of advertising on my outerwear. Smaller patch, better patch.

Wow, Just Wow

I thought long and hard about this purchase. To put it bluntly, it’s an expensive sweater. I purchased the Ranger’s uniform sweater about 18 months ago and it’s a remarkable piece. Warm, soft, so good looking that I salivated for the cardigan version for a long time. But…would I wear it, how would it fit etc… In the end I am so happy with this purchase. It looks amazing, it fits well, it’s soft, warm, and comfortable. My wife looks at me with envy when I wear it, which is frequently. Unfortunately it’s not available in small or I’d be buying her one as well. Here in Kentucky the weather is “changeable” and this sweater really works! Happy happy to have bought this sweater. Very worth the investment!

Taking THIS Cardigan with me when I die!

Great fit, smart style, high function! My favorite sweater of all time. Can’t say enough great things about this product! So warm and cozy, but the big sell was when my wife says I actually look sexy wearing it! Thank you AR for never sacrificing quality! 🇺🇸

Sweaters are very warm and well made.
Quality is the best even compared to other high end brands. I like this company and I’m a very demanding person.

Great look and fit

Didn't think I wanted a grey sweater. Wrong. Extremely comfortable, over a triple heavyweight (Wonderlooper) T shirt, godd for 36 up to 66 degrees. Soft, wear it inside or outside with that wide range. 6 foot, 176 lbs. need warmth! This does the job, with a good look.

Comments: Absolutely amazing customer service !! Once I received the sweater - I was amazed at the beautiful quality - truly a lifetime piece of clothing.
Superb Quality

We ordered a sweater for Christmas- and a mistake was made on our end for shipping speed. We contacted customer service and received an immediate response. They responded quickly and very efficient manner. They went out of their way to upgrade the shipping speed and no additional cost to us.
Once the sweater was received- there was a fight for the sweater. Styling, quality and sizing exceptional - a lifetime piece. It is an investment we will not regret.

Comments: Free return shipping would go a long way to enabling me to try more of your products. Gets expensive quick when have to pay for shipping back when fit is not right.
Wonderful weight, feel, and material

Wonderful feel. Hard to find a sweater that truly does not itch when worn against the skin but this one does that. As other comments mention, you can wear it in the very cold to the moderately cool and it temperature regulates very well. Looks great too. I did actually return this one for the crew neck version, because I did not like that the collar of the cardigan would not lay down for me without popping up when I did not prefer it too, but that it is a relatively minor nit, and I love my Ranger Uniform Sweater enough that I might yet by another one (or the lobsterman sweater).

Top notch quality!

From belts, shirts and cardigan sweater that I ordered, I couldn't be more pleased. The old adage you get what you pay for could not be more evident with Atlantic Rancher merchandise! I have found a new home for good looking, functional and quality clothing.
I'm hooked!
Thank You,

I feel like a walking add for this cardigan sweater

Well I tried to buy it last year but had my sights set on the charcoal color. I bought the green ranger sweater last year and love it I put myself on the “ alert me when available” list early last spring and have been checking every week for availability. It showed up and as always with Atlantic Ranger garments it has exceeded my expectations.
I have had it for a week and I am asked daily where I got it. Supper comfortable and warm but not bulky. I expect this to be my go to outerwear from now on. Thanks again Engle!

Extended comments from original review! WOW

Just returned from 10 days in southwestern Germany. Weather was meh at best ranging from highs of mid 60's to lows of high 40's. Several days were rainy. In planning for the trip, I decided to take my new Atlantic Rancher Ranger's Uniform Cardigan and a waxed cotton coat from B*****r that I've had for years. I figured I could layer the waxed cotton for rainy days. Best decision I have made in preparation for this kind of trip. First of all, the Cardigan was great on the plane. Warm, not bulky, and adjustable given the zipper. Overnight flight 9 hours in the air the Cardigan was the perfect companion. Once I arrived I literally wore the Cardigan every day. Hiking in the vineyards, going to castles, lots of outdoor times. On the rainy days the waxed cotton overcoat worked perfectly with the Cardigan. I got several compliments and I was told by my wife that several relatives were hoping that I would "forget" my sweater before I headed back... Needless to say it flew back with me, I wore it the whole time back, no need for the thin blanket they gave, I had the Ranger's Uniform Cardigan Sweater and I won't travel without it again! I'm willing to pay for quality and that's what is clearly served here!

He won’t take the sweater off!!

I bought my husband the Uniform Cardigan sweater in charcoal for his birthday at the end of Oct. 2024. It is now the end of Feb. 2025 and He won’t take it off. It looks really great on him but I probably should order another color 😃

Ranger Uniform cardigan Sweater in Gray

Honestly I was a little reluctant to order Ranger Uniform Sweater as I was concerned that it might be too heavy and the wool too hot. Was I ever wrong. This merino wool is unbelievably soft on the skin and so much so that there is no scratchiness even wearing a short sleeve tee. This sweater is definitely good for three seasons. I layer over a short sleeve or long sleeve tee or lighter weight cotton button up shirt. I am 6’, 210 and the XL is a perfect fit but if you intend to wear heavier layers you may want to size up. The size guide for each item seems to work well for me but if you have any size concern just call Engle for expert sizing advice. I’m so impressed with this cardigan that I ordered another In navy! All bases covered.

Uniform Cardigan Redux

I had purchased the Charcoal Uninform Cardigan about a year ago. What a fantastic sweater! It has traveled with me extensively and like a favorite dog it has steered me toward reliance. This past week I received the Navy counterpart... It will be joining me tomorrow for a cold and rainy walk in the woods... On we go!

Top-notch bombproof cardigan

The highest quality. The price is certainly steep but this is an heirloom piece that will last the ages! As others have said, definitely runs small so size up. Even doing so, the neck is a little snug when fully zipped. You got me looking longingly at this new one in navy.

What a beast!

As others have said, this is an incredible sweater. The only downside is the weather where I live is too warm and I am wishing for more opportunities to wear it. The owners also are amazing at customer service - quick to reply and always go above and beyond any call of duty. I am glad there is no Wishlist function - it would just cost me more money!

Elegance with craftsmanship!

The quality of this handmade heavy knit cardigan is beyond compare. It is very warm - I’m looking forward to optimizing its use during our annual Christmas trip to Chicago….
I have been looking at Atlantic rancher products on Facebook over the last couple of years before I decided to treat myself; my only disappointment, if any is that I didn’t do it sooner.

JUST ARRIVED

…..unfortunately it’s not chilly enough to wear yet but what a buy, cannot wait to rock this sweater! (Ranger Uniform Cardigan) Surprised by the heft of it, would recommend sizing up. Doesn’t pick like some heavyweight wool and perfect for a night out or day in the woods. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ranger cardigan

Owned the 25th anniversary Ranger but added this, and I live in Florida. Nice and heavy. Have not had a chance to wear yet, but the same high quality of all of the Atlantic Rancher products.

Ranger Uniform Cardigan

This is my second purchase as I had previously acquired the Uniform Sweater and was so impressed with the quality of workmanship and durability that purchasing the Uniform Cardigan was a sure thing. I wasn’t wrong. The quality and materials of both of these is seldom available in any similar product. Buy either one of these and you are going to be blissfully stuck with them for a lifetime because they are quality that will last and might even be handed down. Forget about fast fashion, these are the real deal. Every man and woman who is adventurous and truly lives life, needs at least one of these. Take the plunge, you won’t regret it. Fit, quality workmanship, comfort and built to last - what more do you need?

People Usually Ask

1. Where are your products made?

All of our shirts, pants, outerwear, sweater, belts and moccasins are made in Portugal, mostly in the same shops we've been working with for over 25 years. Our hand-sewn leather goods, hats and a few other items are made in America.

2. How would you describe the fit of your clothes?

Our fit is what we call contemporary, meaning they're not overly baggy or boxy, but have ample room and freedom of movement. Also, our outerwear is uninsulated, or very lightly insulated. It's cut with enough room to allow you to layer underneath, with a sweater, a vest or even a light down-filled jacket. For us, layering is always the way to go!

3. Will your shirts and pants shrink after washing?

Simple answer is no. All of our shirts and pants are pre-shrunk. At most you will experience a 2% shrink factor after washing and drying.

4. What is DryHandle®?

Dryhandle® is a 100% cotton, weatherproof fabric that we develop in 1995. Starting with 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton the thread is very tightly woven resulting in a fabric so dense that it's thornproof and, even at this stage, surpasses the U.S. government test for rainwear. The fabric is then impregnated through the proprietary DryHandle® process which irreversibly transforms the cotton fibers themselves to make them inherently water-resistant and stain-resistant. Unlike oiled or waxed cotton fabrics, DryHandle® is extremely lightweight, has no odor, won't stain other clothing or upholstery and resists stains from hard use and long wear. Despite being water-resistant, the weave contains millions of microscopic pores that vent moisture, making DryHandle® garments exceptionally breathable and comfortable to wear.

5. How long does delivery usually take?

Orders received by 2pm PST are usually shipped the same day. In most cases we ship via USPS Priority Package, and orders to the East Coast typically arrive in 4 days or less. West of The Mississippi orders arrive in 2-3 days.

6. How do i reach the founder of the company?

Easy! You can email him (that would be me, Engle) at engle@atlanticrancher.com or you can call me at 206-919-0943. I am around most of the time, but i miss you, I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

7. If an item is out of stock will you let me when it's available again?

We maintain an active "wait list." So when you send a message asking to be notified when the item, color and size becomes available, we actually do something worthwhile with your request. We catalog your request and email you once the item becomes available again.

8. Who writes your copy and are the stories true?

The answer to the first part of this question is: me, Engle Saez, founder of the company. For part #2...there's an old adage that applies here: "you can't make this shit up." And I will just say that the stories I tell are as true as I can make them and as accurate as my memory allows. That's a true story...

9: Where did the name Atlantic Rancher come from?

The origins of our company's name is a long story, one will share in blog post at some point. But for now, all should know that we are forever grateful to Susan Turner for her original and very creative idea.

10: How do I return or exchange a item?

Returns are easy, but please follow our process. Email us at orders@atlanticrancher.com, include your order number in the subject line and tell us what you'd like to return and why. We'll review your return request and email you a RMA (return merchandise authorization) with the return-to shipping address. Please be sure to package your item(s) thoughtfully so goods aren’t damaged in the process. Select and use the carrier of your choice as return shipping is not covered by us. Please select “signature required” to ensure your return package is receipt confirmed.

We’ll let you know via email when your package has been received, inspected and your refund is issued. Refunds usually take 5-10 business days to process.

If you need to exchange an item, the best process is this: 1. Place a new order for the item you want. 2. Return the item you don't want to us, following the process outlined above.
