Comfy and Versatile.

I was hesitant to purchase such an expensive jacket, however, after agonizing over it for months, I finally decided to take a chance and treat myself for my birthday. The quality is superb, it feels very nice and is great for wind protection. The water resistant properties haven’t been put to the test, but I did notice a couple droplets absorbed vs ran off, so not looking too promising. However, I got this jacket so that I could wear it and be protected from the midwestern winter winds, as well as participate in prescribed burns, which aren’t normally too wet conditions. For that, it’s been great. A little chilly under 30 degrees, but particularly great at burns for keeping me at a comfortable temperature. I appreciate the insulation, and like another commenter, wish that the pockets had some lining as well to keep my hands warm. I normally get a women’s XL in jackets to have some space and found the L to be comfortable over some layers for this jacket. I’d say it runs a little small compared to other men’s jackets I’ve worn.

Comments: If you are on the fence, don't be... the size charts are very accurate and the customer service is over the top if you have questions.
Outstanding Bomber Jacket

I have had this jacket since March of 24. This has given me plenty of time to wear it in a variety of conditions. It has performed excellently in both cooler to cold weather, when worn with layers, and very well in wet conditions keeping me as dry as can be expected with a waist length non hooded jacket. I have only washed it once in the entire time I have had it as the Dry Handle fabric seems to just shrug off dirt while it has developed a subtle patina along the way. The fact that it is every bit as effective as waxed canvas, without the drama of WC is worth the price of admission. The fit and finish are excellent and the XXXL size fits be correctly and allows for ample layering when need. I like this jacket so much that I recently bought the Boatyard Jacket in Tan for a different look, and some more pockets. I suspect that it will perform similarly to the Bomber jacket. Any time I see anyone asking for any type of outdoor clothing, I cannot recommend AR enough, both the products and ownership & customer service teams are top notch! In the pic I am wearing it with my recently acquired and reviewed Maine Lobstermen's Sweater. They make for a warm and comfortable pairing.

Comments: Best customer service … ever!

Engle,
I can’t thank you enough for your assistance in getting me the Outlaw Gunner Bomber Jacket.. It is THE BEST jacket I have ever owned! My wife and I love walking our Dog Grayton in Santa Rosa Beach Fl and temps have been in mid 30’s recently.. wind chill makes it feel like it’s 25 degrees … The jacket is amazing , no wind gets through, your neck is completely sheltered from the elements and the fit allows for unrestricted movement. I have had complete strangers stop me and ask “where can they get that jacket!” Here is a picture of me and my dog on the beach… it’s 32 degrees and the wind is coming off the gulf and I am in awe of how warm this jacket it is! Best online shopping experience I have ever had.. if your reading this BUY THIS JACKET, it will be the best jacket you have ever owned. Thanks again Engle!!

Customer for life!

Comments: OK... SO... Not being too picky, I love this jacket, but I wish it was just a tad bit brighter orange in color. Kind of an odd request from me considering the rest of my wardrobe is blue, black, brown, or grey. LOL
Smart looking... Everyday wearability...

I've had my eye on this jacket for a while and finally pulled the trigger. I'm 6' 0" and 225 lbs with 36/37 arms and the XL fits perfectly. This is easily going to be my favorite jacket. The clothe outer shell fabric is supple, quiet, soft, and durable in nature. It also seems to be rather wrinkle-free. The lining inside allows the coat to slip on and off with ease and the plaid pattern is a thing of contrasting beauty. The elasticized cuffs bottom of the jacket conform comfortably snug, but not too tight, to keep you warm. Where as other similar jackets I've owned feel like they simply sit on you, this jacket becomes a part of you and moves effortlessly with you. The orange and blue contrast looks smart and I almost didn't get this color choice being a more conservative kinda guy, but it really looks good without being too bold or brash. You're probably going to stand out from the rest of the crowd, but you'll do so in a good way. The stich detailing has just the right amount of "pronouncement" - Meaning its there, but doesn't make me feel like I'm wearing my grandmother's quilt. My favorite part of the fit of this jacket is the elasticized fabric in the underarm area that allows for that freedom of movement I spoke of above. I feel like with all AR products they have truly taken the time to design clothing that works for you and works with you. This jacket is really worth every penny. Wish I hadn't waited so long to pull the trigger. Seriously considering obtaining the olive colored jacket for duck hunting. Thank you Engle and Victoria and the rest of the AR gang! This is a homerun!

Comments: The fact that Engle answered an email sent late on Friday night on the weekend was pretty amazing. If I had any complaint about the Outlaw Gunner Jacket, it would be about the zipper pull. I really like a larger one or at least one with a good-sized, gripable pull. One other consideration might be lining the bellows pockets with something like a synthetic moleskin. I have handwarmer pockets on a Barbour coat that really are welcome in cooler weather.
What A Great Jacket!

After an email exchange about sizing, I placed my order on Tuesday and received it on Friday afternoon! My new Outlaw Gunner Jacket is exactly as described but better. I wanted to use the jacket especially for my work as an EMS helicopter pilot. The sizing is perfect for wearing over a Nomex flight suit and a thin fleece vest. The outside pockets are perfect for gloves, beanies, a flashlight, and a phone. I am really impressed with the collar! It is tall enough to block the wind but with ample room for me to tuck my chin in, not to mention how comfortable the cotton/nylon ribbing is. The sleeve pocket is perfect for the fatter pens and pen lights I need to carry at night. The underarm gussets allow a lot of upward mobility without restriction, perfect for climbing up the side of my helicopter for pre and post flight inspections, not to mention reaching up in the cockpit to operate the overhead switches. All in all, it's an excellent combination of bomber and hunting jacket. I think you've hit on a very good balance of insulation as well. Just standing out in the pasture here with a 10-15 knot wind out of the west, at 45 degrees F, the jacket is very comfortable over a T-shirt. And later that night it was equally at home over that light fleece vest and my Nomex flight suit as the temps dropped down into the upper 20's and I had to stand out on an elevated hospital helipad refueling and waiting for my medical crew. (It proved to be a bit too warm in the cockpit with the heater running.)

Now on my week off, the Outlaw Gunner Jacket is my go-to over a T-shirt for walking the dogs, going into town, for just about anything. Wind, rain, cold, it doesn't matter. This jacket functions extremely well.

This past fall, I gave all my leather flight jackets to my son. A couple of A-2's in goatskin as well as a G-1. They were heavy, restrictive, and though they blocked the wind well, not really very warm. They were beautiful but I think my son can get more use out of them than I could. I'd been looking for a reasonable replacement ever since. This Outlaw Gunner Jacket is lighter, extremely flexible, and a much, much more functional piece of gear. I'm really excited to have one!

Great everyday jacket for me 3 seasons

Great everyday jacket for me. Great material and great fit.
Best of all are the looks and compliments. Team it up with a western hat and I look like I belong on Yellowstone.

A favorite jacket at arrival!

I really liked the pictures and description of this jacket after multiple visits to the Atlantic Rancher website. I already owned the Ranger sweater, so I was pretty sure the quality and look of the jacket would be great. The only thing holding me back was the sleeve length. I'm 6-5 with long arms -- 37 inches in dress shirts. The sweater sleeves were good, so I took a chance on the jacket in XL. It also fits, and I immediately put it to work. It's pretty heavy for its size, water- and windproof. The trim at the collar and sleeves is a soft knit that's comfortable and seals the sleeve ends from the wind. The burnt orange color has a sportsman appearance like fine upland hunting wear. As others have said, the large handwarmer pockets could probably benefit from a liner like the one on the collar, but they are deep enough to keep your hands out of the wind even with gloves on. A few other pockets accommodate your phone and other essentials. Finally, the price. I won't lie -- it gave me pause. But, I don't mind paying up for quality even if I have to grit my teeth to push that purchase button. I'm not sorry I did. I look forward to years of service from this item and expect it will age well and look even better after break-in.

This will be a wonderful 3-season jacket - and mostly 4 seasons in NC! Water and windproof and a perfect weight for spring and fall and those cool mountain evenings in the summer. Great workmanship and quality!

Great Shirts

Ordered the boatyard shirt and the outlaw gunner bomber jacket. Both look and fit great and feel very durable. I plan on getting another of the same shirt in a different color.

Gunner Bomber

Well made, good design. Exceptions are 1) Zipper engagement is not ideal for the price point 2) Hand warmer pockets would benefit from a lining,

Love this!

Really liked the look of the Outlaw Gunner jacket when it crossed through my social feed. Enough so to click through to the website and there I liked it even more. The more coming from reading the company history and product ethos. Given some sketchy online clothing purchases over the past year or so I wasn’t quite sure about ordering from a company I had never heard of. So glad I did! Love the mustard color and the attention to detail with the lining. While I’ll only been wearing this for a week (just in time for a fall cold snap) I can tell this is very well made and something that will both break in nicely and last a long, long time. Very happy with the new jacket, it is already becoming my favorite, and will be ordering again from Atlantic Rancher! Thanks so much!

Comments: Thanks for making great products! Only suggestion would be to see if there are customs brokers who will move products to Canada without huge brokerage fees - I paid $100 in fees on this order, over and above customs duties.
The reviews are right!

Sizing - I'm 6'1", 175lbs. I figured I would be a L, but Engle advised M and he was right. The fit is slightly short, but you'd expect that with a bomber style jacket. Shoulders/arms/chest are perfect.

No surprise, this jacket is top notch like everything else I have from Atlantic Rancher. I paid a significant premium due to border brokerage and customs fees, but even with the premium price and that surprise on delivery I feel like I have something I can wear for the next 25 years which is a hard thing to find.

Comfortable, more weatherproof than I expected, durable, etc. Will be my go-to for just about everything in the shoulder seasons in Ontario Canada.

Comments: A top notch brand worth every penny if your looking for everyday clothes to cold weather as well.
You get what you pay for.

By far one of the one best jackets I’ve bought and have worn. I’ve worn a lot of jackets through the years and working I Chicago you get a cold then a wet cold once it rains here in the middle of the winter. But I can confidently say that the jack blocks out the wet cold which is impressive on its own. Cause not many can do that. I highly recommend these jackets and sweatshirts as well and I am definitely gonna be buying more in the future.

Outlaw Gunner Bomber Jacket - 25th Anniversary Edition

Story

For generations, wildfowling was a way of life along the Eastern Seaboard and market gunning had been a necessary and respected profession. With the enactment of the Migratory Bird Act of 1918, the variant interests of the market gunner and the Federal Game Warden unfolded as a real-life cat-and-mouse game. The struggle became legendary and nowhere was it more vividly played out than along the tidewaters and estuaries of the Chesapeake Bay. Part-time friends and part-time foes, one thing the gunner and the warden shared equally was the bitter gnaw of winter’s salty northwest blows.

When it comes to staying warm, modern-day outfitters have nothing on the market gunners of the early 20th century. Dressing in layers was just common sense and a jacket like the Outlaw Gunner quilted shell was a key component of every bayman’s garb. Worn as an intermediate layer under  oiled cotton smocks and bib pants, early versions were often fashioned from discarded quilts or horse blankets.

Our 25th Anniversary Outlaw Gunner Jacket is a limited production run; each jacket is marked with a unique serial number identifier. Made with our exclusive, 6oz. DryHandle®, 100% cotton weatherproof fabric. This garment is an updated rendition of this time-honored, essential component of warmth on the bay. A tight 2x2 quilt pattern over the DryHandle® helps to build air pockets in the polyester microfiber insulation and keeps them in place. Two large pockets in front, zippered arm pocket on sleeve, two utility pockets inside. The body is cut full and broad across the shoulders and chest. Fully lined with 100% cotton shirting fabric; sleeves lined with nylon. Cotton-nylon rib knit cuffs, neck, waist, and underarm gussets.

Spot clean by hand using mild soap if necessary. However, DryHandle® fabric is stubbornly stain-resistant, so a once-over with a damp sponge is usually all you will need.
