Salt Farm Chore Coat - 25th Anniversary Edition

Excellent coat for transition weather ! I get compliments all the time.

So I'm not an Atlantic fisherman. I've spent decades in N Michigan and now find myself in New Mexico mountains, living @ 7400+ altitude and frequent trips to Colorado. Fish both NM and CO rivers and lakes. BUT for me it's this mountain life. Need to be able to leave the house and get out in the field and know I'm ready. Trips back to the Hacienda aren't an option. This jacket handles these crazy weather changes....1 minute sun, then rain, then snow! Ya gotta be prepared and this is my tool! It's the EVERYTHING of jackets. (Wife just washed...looks brand new)

Of the abhorrent number of jackets I have in storage (too many to mention with good conscience)... the Salt Farm Coat is likely the most complete piece of autumn outerwear I've ever worn... in that it can do anything you need it to do.

It's earned its place next to the proud and few legends that manage to occupy the coat hooks next to the door.

The fabric is tough and resilient to elements. Yeah, this is definitely up for chores or field. And it breathes, unlike waxed cotton.

It's not something to wear if you're working in steady rain for 8 hours... but it will handle pretty much anything else.

The design of the pockets, buttons, storm flap, gussets and collar are all absolute class. Engel is in a league of his own when it comes to those details.

I'll probably order a size up at some point in the future so that I can layer underneath in the colder months.

Lastly, this is exactly the type of coat in style right now. Synthetic fibers are OUT and quality durable natural fibers are IN. The pandemic has come and gone and it's time to dress with some dignity again.

First, I'd like to just say that I placed an order for this coat and not even 15 minutes later, Engle - yes, the owner - called me personally to inquire about size and fit to be sure I had ordered the correct size. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE! I couldn't be happier with this coat. I've been looking for something to wear for upland bird and duck hunting that could also handle a night out on the town with the Mrs. or a Friday night high school football game. There are just too many features to list in a brief review. But suffice it to say, you will NOT be disappointed by this coat. I am 6' 0" weighing 225 lbs with 36/37 arms. The XL size coat fits perfectly. It fits well on its own, yet has room enough to place a couple of layers underneath which I am a huge proponent of being an outdoors kinda guy. No shortage of storage and I absolutely love the huge bellow pockets for shotgun shells and gloves and keys and the kitchen sink. I have owned many similar-styled coats from Orvis, Barbour, LL Bean... This coat puts all the rest to shame. No lie... This coat and the quality contained within will last me the rest of my life. I can't wait to pair it with some blaze orange and head out into the Maine backwoods for grouse or drape it with my olive drab duck-vest and call lanyard in the Maine swamps, bogs and salt marshes. I know it sounds odd, but I simply cant wait to get this coat dirty and put it to the proverbial test. I'm sure it will perform flawlessly. Like other products from AR, this one feels like it works for you and with you with stellar freedom of movement, fit, form and function. Another well thought out product from Engle and the rest of the AR crew. Kudos!!!!

This coat comes as advertised; a tried and true workhorse of a coat. The fit and finish are top notch, the fit allows for layering and there are enough pockets. The material is substantial but not heavy and you can wear this one for 3 seasons and possible winter depending on how cold it gets. I love the color. I will be a repeat customer for sure!

Works great almost all year on the NC wetlands or early fall/late spring in Wisconsin (tried both). Fit is true to size.

I saw this jacket online and was somewhat hesitant due to the price, however after reading all of the great reviews I took the leap. I can say this jacket is absolutely worth every penny. I wear it to the office with slacks and dress shirt and out to dinner with jeans and a shirt, you can dress up and dress down with it. I always get compliments on it every time I wear it. I will not use it as a work coat but have zero reservations it would hold up perfectly. If you are on the fence I would say go for it, you will not be disappointed.

I have over the course if time purchased boatyard shirt, pants, bimini shirts and chore coat — all are of grat quality and true to size fit, the service, however is unmatched.

The Salt Farm chore coat is better than expected. Yes it is a little more expensive than others out there but worth it. The fit, look and feel are spot on. Nice heavy material that feels like it will turn away brush thorns and weather. I’m 6’ 185# and the large leaves room for layering. If you’re on the fence go get you one!

Yes, women compliment me ( even when I am not wearing this coat, maybe), but men compliment me when I am wearing it. A relative from NH said, "You look like you know something and cannot be messed with." Another bunch of fellas said, "That's a nice coat." It is an excellent coat, puts Barbour to shame, and just feels so bombproof solid. Unfortunately, I can't afford a sweater for underneath; I just wear my fleece vests.......

All I can say is it’s a a very good coat. I was expecting something good, but after wearing and breaking it in a bit, it’s better than I thought it’d be. Very pleased and will be buying another.

As a long-known jacket enthusiast (amongst my peers) and having grown up in Syracuse and Canada around A LOT of workwear, I have to say that this is THE most handsome and impressive piece I've ever owned. The cut, construction (inside and out), wear, fold, and texture are all just beautiful. I am not exaggerating when I say that I have yet to meet up with anyone who hasn't almost immediately complimented me the first time they see it (even waiters at restaurants). If I had to make one small gripe, I would say the flannel on the interior could be slightly thicker (similar to the LL Bean's scotch plaids), but I suppose this is better for layering, making the jacket more versatile in different temps.

I've worn it on long cold outdoor kiln firings, wood splitting, etc., and even on dates (women go crazy for this thing) haha. Not to sound too dramatic, but this coat is unlike anything I've ever come across in true quality. Your product feels like something I pulled out of a vacuum-sealed bag from the mid-century (in the best way possible).

Perfect coat for any season. Currently using in the cold New England Winter season. Perfect as the top layer in snow / rain conditions. Plenty of pocket space and very wind / water resistant.

I have had an Atlantic Rancher DryHandle hunting coat since the 1990s and it still looks and wears as good as it did 25 years ago. The new Salt Farm Chore Coat carries on that high quality, great looks and total functionality. The look and fit are exceptional and I look forward to using it for the next 25+ years. I would highly recommend it over the Barbor, Filson and Orvis coats I also have.

I live on the Mendocino Coast in Northern California. We have a cool Mediterranean climate meaning all of our rain for the year comes in the winter and the temperature all year long is between 35 and 65 degrees. If you want or need to get outside during the winter months, you need to be comfortable with the rain. And if you do get out, it's nice to wear something that can manage the epic overgrowth of blackberry brambles and also keep you dry. I can put this jacket on and go for a three-hour hike in the redwoods or birding along the coast, and not worry about the rain. The lack of insulation in this jacket is ideal for our climate. I just add as much insulation underneath the jacket as I need for that day, and walk out the door. I used to carry a backpack for some food, coffee, gloves, field guides, etc when I would go on long day hikes. With the large and numerous pockets, I skip the backpack and just fill my pockets.

I held off on this review until I got caught in a proper sustained rain. During the annual Christmas Bird Count in our area, I spent several hours in steady rain with camera batteries and some food in my pockets, but my shirt, batteries, etc were bone dry when the sun finally came out. Is the coat waterproof? No. Is it weather resistant enough to handle several hours of blowing rain. Yes.

Before buying the coat, I seriously questioned whether the coat would be worth the cost. However, the tailoring, design details, durability and utility in all kinds of situations means that I now use it instead of the other 4 coats sitting in my closet.

I'm a small general contractor and I have no doubt this coat would handle the rigors of my work day, but frankly, the coat looks too good to be covered in caulk, paint drips, wood sap and concrete splatter. I'll keep my junk coat for work and use the Salt Farm Chore Coat for everything else.

This is the best item of clothing I have bought in some time, period. The fabric, the cut, the fit are all superb. It’s one of those rare pieces that makes you feel good just wearing it. I was a little hesitant to buy it as it’s predominantly for use in colder weather and isn’t insulated, but now I’ve worn it a few times I think that’s actually better as I can layer beneath it as required, rather than being stuck with the insulation on days and/or doing jobs where I don’t need it. If you’re thinking about getting one, just do it. You get what you pay for.

I bought this coat because I was looking for something that I could use daily on our 20 acres in coastal Maine; something rugged for working in brush, something I can use in the rain, something that I can add layers when it is cold, something with natural fibers, and something that would replace the multitude of coats hanging in the hallway. This has met my expectations.
