DETAILS

A COAT FOR ALL SEASONS – If you can only have one Atlantic Rancher coat, this is the one to have. Its ¾ length makes it wearable for just about any occasion. Uninsulated, works just as well over a t-shirt as it does stuffed to the collar with sweaters, vests and flannels.

FUNCTIONAL, DURABLE & PRACTICAL – Built with our proprietary DryHandle®, 100% weatherproof fabric in 12oz. weight. It’s lightweight, and because it has no waxes or oils, you won’t be dealing with that funky odor or messy bleeding onto other garments or upholstery.

ABUNDANT UTILITY– In all, the Salt Farm Coat has 7 pockets not counting the two interior pockets. The dump pockets are huge, gusseted for expansion and have a fold over flaps with double button closures.

LIVE THE PART…DON’T JUST LOOK GOOD DOING IT– Our products are all built to perform in weather-rich environments and to excel at the task for which they were intended…whether that has you saddled to a John Deere® in the Sandhills of Nebraska or to a Thule® all-terrain stroller in Central Park.

LIMITED EDITION – Our 25th Anniversary Salt Farm Coat is a limited production run, each is marked with a unique serial number identifier.

From Maine to Alaska, heavy weight cotton tarps are perhaps one of the most appreciated and commonly found “tools” on working farms and ranches. There's a reason. From covering equipment to rescuing livestock from a mud hole, it's durability and versatility are irreplaceable and legendary. We think of our Salt Farm Coat in similar terms.

Very well made and comfortable. Can easily layer underneath and it doesn’t look too large when you don’t. Like many products from AR the picture doesn’t do it justice.

Not Your Average Cotton Duck Coat

I have a few chore coats, and this won't be one of them. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's up to the task. It's just simply too good looking.

The corduroy-lined cuffs are a very nice touch. As are the modern and adventurous twist on the pocket situation.

But the most remarkable feature of this jacket is simply that it's striking. It looks fantastic. If this style is your aesthetic, you'll fall in love with this coat. I personally think it looks better than a Barbour, Filson, or Carhartt.

I'm 6'0 175 and generally between a Medium and a Large. I would recommend sizing up for this jacket if you're undecided.

My new Salt Farm coat

I got my Salt Farm coat from Atlantic Rancher recently, wasn't really surprised by the high quality as I have a half dozen other items by them; all well made & comfortable. The coat is rugged but comfortable. J P Hand Cape May N J

Outstanding quality, new favorite coat

Could not be more pleased with this coat. The quality matches all Atlantic Rancher products I’ve purchased so far- excellent. It’s very functional and looks great as well.

A coat for the ages

They don't make coats like this anymore. At least, not often. There's a reason this thing hasn't changed much in 25 years: as the saying goes, if it ain't broke....
Those of us in the Pacific NW just experienced what they call an "atmospheric river" - aka massive dumping of rain -- for the last few weeks. You didn't want to go out if you didn't have to. But I did have to, so I put this coat on. Kept me warm and dry. Cannot recommend enough.

The Salt Farm Coat Story

Excerpt from our original 1995 catalog:

"The Ram Island Salt Farm, just south of Portland, Maine on Cape Elizabeth, sits on the east side of the tiny inlet at the top end of Higgin's Beach. Among other things, they make hay here, May through October. From the brow of the hill, the fields drop in a deliberate free-fall right down to the Atlantic. No beach there. Just rock and salt spray make the transition. In the barns above, Phineas Sprague, Jr. still restores wooden lobster boats. Every winter, for as long as anyone can recall, his father Phineas Sr., has rowed out past the point in his Barnegat Bay Sneakbox to gun for eiders. God willing, this year won't be any different."

We're bringing back this workhorse of a coat, made identical to the original save sizing adjustments and a 100% cotton shirting fabric lining. Full, boxy, sturdy...practical. Large, functional dump pockets and a collar that feels right, up, because it serves its purpose. The 100% cotton, 12oz DryHandle® fabric is weatherproof and keeps it dry and clean. Spot clean by hand using mild soap if necessary.

The 25th Anniversary Salt Farm Coat is a limited production run, and each garment is marked with a unique serial number identifier.

People Usually Ask

1. Where are your products made?

All of our shirts, pants, outerwear, sweater, belts and moccasins are made in Portugal, mostly in the same shops we've been working with for over 25 years. Our hand-sewn leather goods, hats and a few other items are made in America.

2. How would you describe the fit of your clothes?

Our fit is what we call contemporary, meaning they're not overly baggy or boxy, but have ample room and freedom of movement. Also, our outerwear is uninsulated, or very lightly insulated. It's cut with enough room to allow you to layer underneath, with a sweater, a vest or even a light down-filled jacket. For us, layering is always the way to go!

3. Will your shirts and pants shrink after washing?

Simple answer is no. All of our shirts and pants are pre-shrunk. At most you will experience a 2% shrink factor after washing and drying.

4. What is DryHandle®?

Dryhandle® is a 100% cotton, weatherproof fabric that we develop in 1995. Starting with 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton the thread is very tightly woven resulting in a fabric so dense that it's thornproof and, even at this stage, surpasses the U.S. government test for rainwear. The fabric is then impregnated through the proprietary DryHandle® process which irreversibly transforms the cotton fibers themselves to make them inherently water-resistant and stain-resistant. Unlike oiled or waxed cotton fabrics, DryHandle® is extremely lightweight, has no odor, won't stain other clothing or upholstery and resists stains from hard use and long wear. Despite being water-resistant, the weave contains millions of microscopic pores that vent moisture, making DryHandle® garments exceptionally breathable and comfortable to wear.

5. How long does delivery usually take?

Orders received by 2pm PST are usually shipped the same day. In most cases we ship via USPS Priority Package, and orders to the East Coast typically arrive in 4 days or less. West of The Mississippi orders arrive in 2-3 days.

6. How do i reach the founder of the company?

Easy! You can email him (that would be me, Engle) at engle@atlanticrancher.com or you can call me at 206-919-0943. I am around most of the time, but i miss you, I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

7. If an item is out of stock will you let me when it's available again?

We maintain an active "wait list." So when you send a message asking to be notified when the item, color and size becomes available, we actually do something worthwhile with your request. We catalog your request and email you once the item becomes available again.

8. Who writes your copy and are the stories true?

The answer to the first part of this question is: me, Engle Saez, founder of the company. For part #2...there's an old adage that applies here: "you can't make this shit up." And I will just say that the stories I tell are as true as I can make them and as accurate as my memory allows. That's a true story...

9: Where did the name Atlantic Rancher come from?

The origins of our company's name is a long story, one will share in blog post at some point. But for now, all should know that we are forever grateful to Susan Turner for her original and very creative idea.

10: How do I return or exchange a item?

Returns are easy, but please follow our process. Email us at orders@atlanticrancher.com, include your order number in the subject line and tell us what you'd like to return and why. We'll review your return request and email you a RMA (return merchandise authorization) with the return-to shipping address. Please be sure to package your item(s) thoughtfully so goods aren’t damaged in the process. Select and use the carrier of your choice as return shipping is not covered by us. Please select “signature required” to ensure your return package is receipt confirmed.

We’ll let you know via email when your package has been received, inspected and your refund is issued. Refunds usually take 5-10 business days to process.

If you need to exchange an item, the best process is this: 1. Place a new order for the item you want. 2. Return the item you don't want to us, following the process outlined above.
