VERSATILE…ALL-AROUND, YEAR-AROUND – This is the most practical, go everywhere / do everything jacket we make. Wear it to work in…or work it to live in.

WEATHERPROOF – Built with our proprietary DryHandle®, 100% cotton weatherproof fabric that sheds water and resist stains. The torso is lined with a lightweight layer of Thinsulate and a 100% cotton shirting fabric. The sleeves are lined with nylon / acetate fabric.

UTILITY IS ITS MIDDLE NAME – Four large utility dump pockets dominate the front, and the concealed handwarmer pockets make it 6 pockets in all. A broad turn-up collar; a button-over front storm placket; gusseted adjustable sleeve cuffs; and Velcro® adjusters at hip make it complete.

BORN IN THE BOATYARD, LIVES THERE STILL – Inspired by the life and times of the Marblehead Boatyard Boys in 1995, at the 89 Front Street Yard. 25th Anniversary Edition each jacket is marked with a unique serial number identifier.

Our Boatyard Jacket…birthed at the Marblehead Boatyard, 89 Front Street, circa 1995, and inspired by the wily cast of characters we fondly recall as the Boatyard Boys: Dinzi, Moose, Lars, Tobi, and a few others we can’t mention.

Story

Excerpt from our original 1995 catalog -

"Coming up with new ideas for our company is sometimes as
easy as looking out our window at 89 Front Street. Right there below, on any given day, parade enough ideas to fill a dozen lifetimes at sea…we call ‘em the Boatyard Boys. They're not the most gregarious bunch…to most, they wouldn’t say bull if they had a mouth full of it. But if you listen hard, sooner or later you learn something. And often, it’s the most obvious ideas that are the hardest pick up on, ideas that are valued because they work. Ideas From A Lifetime At Sea."

Hail to the Boatyard Boys, this is their idea.

Nothing fancy…a functional, practical jacket they can work in is all they’re after. The Atlantic Rancher Boat Yard Jacket, 25th Anniversary Edition is made with our exclusive and proprietary 6 oz. DryHandle, 100% cotton, weatherproof fabric. Throughout, the cut is broad, especially in the shoulders and sleeves where freedom of movement is essential. Plain back with center seam…waist-length with adjustable Velcro tabs at the hip. Plaid, 100% cotton shirting fabric lining over polyester insulation. Sleeves are also insulated and lined with nylon acetate. Roomy forearms with storm gussets and adjustable, button closure cuffs. All the pockets are volume constructed and the two front pockets have side-entry hand-warmers behind. Full-length button-over storm flap. Broad, stand-up collar. Spot clean by hand using mild soap if necessary. However, DryHandle fabric is stubbornly stain-resistant, so a once-over with a damp sponge is usually all you'll need.

Boatyards and Everywhere Else

Had this jacket now for several weeks and I have had the opportunity to wear it in some less than ideal weather. Today and tomorrow should give it a pretty good test. Very low temps and a snowstorm on the way later tonight. The fabric has been as good as the Outlaw Gunner Jacket as far as keeping me dry in rain and snow. I appreciate the generous cut and accurate sizing, this one is a XXXL, that allows layering. Pictured this morning with the Bayman's Flannel and the Maine Lobstermen's sweater, I was plenty warm while the temps were around 5 deg F before sunrise. If you need an all purpose jacket that will have your back, look no further. As with every purchase I have made with AR, the quality and customer service has is always top notch!

Excellent PNW Jacket

Stops wind, water resistant, and construction is solid. I am between a L and XL, and support advised XL and it fits perfectly. It is a boxier fit, which makes it perfect to layer a hoodie or sweater underneath if cold enough. The Velcro tabs on the side make it easy to shrink the waist if you don’t have a layer underneath. It sits like an inch and a half lower than a traditional trucker jacket, which I actually prefer, don’t have it riding up much if you raise your arms etc. There is just a bit of insulation in the chest and back, which I think is just the perfect amount for western PNW. Very cozy cotton lining on the inside, and the sleeves are rayon lined not cheap polyester which is a much appreciated detailed that most manufacturers skimp out on.

Great Fit. Built To Last.

I *almost* want to skip Summer and get straight to November to try it out. I think I will visit my friend in Vermont instead. Great fit and finish.

Top Notch

Every single thing about this jacket is top notch. From the jacket to the experience ordering it. First the jacket, it is everything I have come to expect from AR the fit the finish and materials are incredible. Second the experience ordering, I figured out several days after placing my order I made a mistake and ordered the wrong size. Totally my fault. I needed the jacket for a trip. I emailed Engle and they shipped the right size while I was still waiting to receive the original one. Long story short I got the right one in time and sent the wrong one back. Great service.

Top Notch

Everything about this jacket and the experience I had ordering it was TopNotch. First the jacket itself is exactly the quality I have come to expect from AR. Fit and finish are wonderful. Second the experience. I figured out several days after placing my order that I had made a mistake with the size. Totally my fault. I needed the jacket for a trip I was going on. I contacted AR and they shipped me the right size immediately even though the wrong one was in transit. I simply returned it and had the one I needed in time for my trip. Hard to find this level of service.

My New Favorite!

I should probably admit that I do have a problem with jackets. I love them! But having had a number of them in all kinds of designs and for all kinds of functions, I've found that it's harder and harder to find a jacket that I love, a jacket that checks enough boxes in that quest for a truly useful, functional, and even stylish piece of clothing. I should have bought this jacket a year ago.

First of all, the fabric is wonderful. Sheds water like waxed cotton but without all the drama. And it lacks that cold, clammy feeling of waxed cotton in the damp, cold weather. Also lacking the wax, I find that my new Boatyard Jacket doesn't end up attracting and carrying the extra hair my Border Collie and Jack Russell seemed determined to decorate my old Barbour jacket with. Add to that the fabric is thicker and looks like it will wear very well.

The styling is spot on as well. I am entirely comfortable wearing the Boatyard Jacket into town for dinner or out in the barnyard to help unload bedding for my wife's horse. Fully functional pockets with handwarmers, and two very useful interior pockets let me carry whatever I want. The storm flap closes with buttons and covers a great YKK zipper. The sleeves are lined with a nylon which makes putting the jacket on over everything from a t-shirt to light puffy jacket easy.

So far I've worn my Boatyard Jacket in temps from 8 degrees F to 53 degrees F, varying what I've worn under it from multiple layers to a long-sleeved t-shirt. It's been perfect.

I should stop before Engle accuses me of writing a novel. If you're thinking about this jacket, or sitting on the fence, call Engle and talk sizes. Buy the jacket! You won't regret it!

Versatile, excellent quality.

Thoughtfully designed and constructed, great jacket for cool or inclement weather. Fits well, comfortable and substantial fabric. Perfect stitching on the buttons, buttonholes and seams. Overall, a much better jacket than other more expensive Ventile outerwear I've looked at.

Feels tough

As soon as you open the package and get a feel to the jacket you can already feel and tell that it’s quality. It’s not bulky, can’t really wear it out just yet because of the weather but I think I found my go to jacket when it rains and I go up north during snow and rain season in California

No Longer a blend in guy

I have worn a barn coat for twenty five years so i was ready to replace it with the anniversary edition boatyard jacket. Now, I am sharper, warmer and no longer able to blend in as I work between the north woods and downeast Maine.

Great jacket but sizing a bit too snug

5' 10" and 178#, classic American male large with 43" chest .. 42" suit coat usually a tad snug in chest and shoulders but 44" suit coat often a bit too much material .. 43" suit coat is a perfect fit for me .. I appreciate natural fit outer wear that allows for layering underneath and adequate, but not excessive, chest and shoulder room for flexing and working .. Boatyard chore coat has 49" chest in size large and I suspected it would be a bit snug .. tried it anyway and I was right .. this coat does not have a slightly wider shoulder to offset a minimally sized chest circumference and it also does not have shoulder blade pleats on the coat back that give you some extra spread and shoulder/chest wiggle room when flexing and moving around .. I found the 49" chest size too snug .. I know from experience that 50" or 51" chest typically works great for me and includes layering room beneath .. and that 52" and up is too loose .. extra large in the Boatyard would be 53" chest and too big .. so I am sending the Boatyard back and will try the Chore coat with its 49" chest and shoulder blade pleats .. hopefully the pleats will work even with the slimmer 49" chest and work out .. Engle is great to work with, by the way .. I just feel he needs to rethink his sizing a bit, as I suspect other guys also end up between sizes in his jackets and this problem could easily be taken care of by making large size a 50" chest and playing with other coat size chest dimensions accordingly ..

Comments: Sizing has been inconsistent across products, but not to a startling degree.
What a coat!

Had it for nearly a month now and I wear it for heavy use (farm), going out in the city, and going on a walk with the pup and it is awesome for each of those. Heavy enough to give warmth, light enough to layer with or to wear as a windbreaker, pockets for days, and well placed.

Great Jacket & Great Service

This is a really nice jacket and the service is outstanding. Before ordering I had several questions and thought I would send an email to get more information. This was on a Sunda morning and I am located in Pennsylvania. I sent the email and low an behold I get a phone call from Engle at 10AM which was 7AM which was his time in Seattle. He fully answered all my questions and I ordered a L navy Boatyard jacket which I just received.
Unfortunately it was a little too snug with a vest underneath and I sent another email to find out how to exchange it for an XL. Engle promptly answered and my larger jacket is on its way and my original is in the process of being shipped back. No issues no problem an Engle was great. He really tries to get the customer what they need.
As an FYI for size I am 6ft and about 189lbs and need the XL.
Thanks again Engle for your help. I can't wait to get the larger jacket.

Well made, easy to move around in and the craftsmanship is like a well built boat. It will last for years and look good doing it
