Our Boatyard Jacket…birthed at the Marblehead Boatyard, 89 Front Street, circa 1995, and inspired by the wily cast of characters we fondly recall as the Boatyard Boys: Dinzi, Moose, Lars, Tobi, and a few others we can’t mention.

Story

Excerpt from our original 1995 catalog -

"Coming up with new ideas for our company is sometimes as
easy as looking out our window at 89 Front Street. Right there below, on any given day, parade enough ideas to fill a dozen lifetimes at sea…we call ‘em the Boatyard Boys. They're not the most gregarious bunch…to most, they wouldn’t say bull if they had a mouth full of it. But if you listen hard, sooner or later you learn something. And often, it’s the most obvious ideas that are the hardest pick up on, ideas that are valued because they work. Ideas From A Lifetime At Sea."

Hail to the Boatyard Boys, this is their idea.

Nothing fancy…a functional, practical jacket they can work in is all they’re after. The Atlantic Rancher Boat Yard Jacket, 25th Anniversary Edition is made with our exclusive and proprietary 6 oz. DryHandle, 100% cotton, weatherproof fabric. Throughout, the cut is broad, especially in the shoulders and sleeves where freedom of movement is essential. Plain back with center seam…waist-length with adjustable Velcro tabs at the hip. Plaid, 100% cotton shirting fabric lining over polyester insulation. Sleeves are also insulated and lined with nylon acetate. Roomy forearms with storm gussets and adjustable, button closure cuffs. All the pockets are volume constructed and the two front pockets have side-entry hand-warmers behind. Full-length button-over storm flap. Broad, stand-up collar. Spot clean by hand using mild soap if necessary. However, DryHandle fabric is stubbornly stain-resistant, so a once-over with a damp sponge is usually all you'll need.

Comments: Great communication, prompt shipping
Versatile, excellent quality.

Thoughtfully designed and constructed, great jacket for cool or inclement weather. Fits well, comfortable and substantial fabric. Perfect stitching on the buttons, buttonholes and seams. Overall, a much better jacket than other more expensive Ventile outerwear I've looked at.

Love this Jacket. !!!

This jacket fits great..true to size. With ample room for layering on cold winter days. Like everything from Atlantic Rancher it is so well made. So practical and can be worn for work or a night out. Very comfortable. Such a great jacket. My favorite.

My New Favorite!

I should probably admit that I do have a problem with jackets. I love them! But having had a number of them in all kinds of designs and for all kinds of functions, I've found that it's harder and harder to find a jacket that I love, a jacket that checks enough boxes in that quest for a truly useful, functional, and even stylish piece of clothing. I should have bought this jacket a year ago.

First of all, the fabric is wonderful. Sheds water like waxed cotton but without all the drama. And it lacks that cold, clammy feeling of waxed cotton in the damp, cold weather. Also lacking the wax, I find that my new Boatyard Jacket doesn't end up attracting and carrying the extra hair my Border Collie and Jack Russell seemed determined to decorate my old Barbour jacket with. Add to that the fabric is thicker and looks like it will wear very well.

The styling is spot on as well. I am entirely comfortable wearing the Boatyard Jacket into town for dinner or out in the barnyard to help unload bedding for my wife's horse. Fully functional pockets with handwarmers, and two very useful interior pockets let me carry whatever I want. The storm flap closes with buttons and covers a great YKK zipper. The sleeves are lined with a nylon which makes putting the jacket on over everything from a t-shirt to light puffy jacket easy.

So far I've worn my Boatyard Jacket in temps from 8 degrees F to 53 degrees F, varying what I've worn under it from multiple layers to a long-sleeved t-shirt. It's been perfect.

I should stop before Engle accuses me of writing a novel. If you're thinking about this jacket, or sitting on the fence, call Engle and talk sizes. Buy the jacket! You won't regret it!
