The Cotton.
Our Beach Haven Tournament Hoodies are made from 100% Tanguis cotton, an indigenous cotton crop grown and processed in Peru. Tanguis is an extra-long staple variety prized for its natural bright-white color and is significantly softer, stronger, and longer lasting than other cottons. It naturally resists pilling, shrinking, and disintegration over time.
The Yarn
We use a combed and ring-spun process for making our yarn. This is step-level change that significantly improves in the quality of the yarn. We use 20/1 yarn weight. After the yarn fibers have been spun, they are combed to remove any impurities or imperfect strands. The yarn is then pressure dyed in small cones ensuring a deep and consistent color penetration.
The Build
We use a full cut-and-sew with side seams construction. Our hoodies are designed and tailored to conform to key measurements on the body, including: shoulder point, shoulder drop, chest, mid-section, hem, front length, back length, collar opening, front / back collar drop, armhole, and sleeve length.
This is in contrast to the less expensive, “tubular construction”…the one-size-fits-most, cookie-cutter approach to used in mass-production operations.

Care Instructions
Our Beach Haven Cotton Sweaters are pigment dyed and require special care to preserve the vintage, worn-in look of your garment. Please follow these recommendations to avoid permanently damaging your garment.
Always wash your garment separately, in cold water and tumble dry in low heat. Note your garment might show “color bleeding’ and you might need to repeat this process.
Never use a Tide Stick or any other stain remover product or device to remove stains.
Grease, oil and other food stains are very difficult to remove. For best results, apply a small amount of Dawn® liquid detergent directly on to the stained area, rub it in gently with your fingers and let it soak in for about one hour. Then rinse thoroughly with warm water. DO NOT use brushes or other course devices to scrub any part of your garment as doing so will penetrate the surface dyes and expose the raw cotton fibers and leave white spots.
Beach Haven Sweater Hoodie
Our very first cotton sweater, a classic you won’t find elsewhere. And as with most all our “ideas”, there’s a story that inspired it. This one’s just a bit more personal than most.
In my very first summer in Beach Haven, I shacked up in one of the most storied rooming houses in town, The Pillars on Chatsworth Avenue. In a very large first floor space converted to a barracks style sleeping quarters, 8 mattresses lay scattered on the floor. One was mine.
All my roomies were lifeguards, just graduated from high school. I was 14, already 6’ 180lbs looking like 18 and working on a fishing boat at Morrison’s Marina.
It was a rough go with these b-guards. Each morning I’d sneak out as early as possible to avoid the continuation of the prior night’s harassment by these seriously fueled up, overserved hooligans. One morning, from a pile of salt-water-soaked T’s and sweats, I grabbed one of their “lifeguard” cotton sweaters and headed out the door for the 15min. bike ride to the marina.
This did not go well for me.
Even though I snuck the wayward sweater back into the barracks that very same day, the damage was done and I became their late-night punching bag. Later that week, I escaped to the safety of the v-berth on the F/V Bee-Dee.
Overtime, I licked my wounds and forgot all about the hazing I had taken. But I never forgot about that sweater. Something about it stuck with me for many years.
Maybe it was the “borrowing” of something so prized by the b-guards. They knew something about that sweater that I didn’t and they appreciated it in ways I simply could not. Surely the sweater in question didn’t start out with holes in it, or with that briny look and smell. All those characteristics were earned by endless hours pacing the shoreline and up on the guard stand. There were no shortcuts to getting that sweater to look, feel, smell, and perform the way it did.
And here we are, not attempting to recreate that sweater but instead bringing to life the feeling and that sense of place, for those of us who remember when. As well as for all those who have never stepped foot on a sandy, salt-sprayed beach or heard the roar of the surf. This sweater is for you. 100% cotton, sizes Small to 2XL.
Shipping
We don’t use a 3rd. fulfillment house to process your order. We pick, pack and ship all orders ourselves from our own warehouse. If we receive your order by 12pm PST, we usually ship it to you that day. Otherwise it will ship on the following business day.
Returns & Refunds
If you aren’t happy with what you’ve purchased from Atlantic Rancher, you may return it to us in like-new condition within 30-days of purchase and we’ll process a refund for the full purchase price of the item(s) being returned.
Returns after the normal 30-day window are for store credit only.
