DETAILS

A COAT FOR ALL SEASONS – If you can only have one Atlantic Rancher coat, this is the one to have. Its ¾ length makes it wearable for just about any occasion. Uninsulated, works just as well over a t-shirt as it does stuffed to the collar with sweaters, vests and flannels.

FUNCTIONAL, DURABLE & PRACTICAL – Built with our proprietary DryHandle®, 100% weatherproof fabric in 12oz. weight. It’s lightweight, and because it has no waxes or oils, you won’t be dealing with that funky odor or messy bleeding onto other garments or upholstery.

ABUNDANT UTILITY– In all, the Salt Farm Coat has 7 pockets not counting the two interior pockets. The dump pockets are huge, gusseted for expansion and have a fold over flaps with double button closures.

LIVE THE PART…DON’T JUST LOOK GOOD DOING IT– Our products are all built to perform in weather-rich environments and to excel at the task for which they were intended…whether that has you saddled to a John Deere® in the Sandhills of Nebraska or to a Thule® all-terrain stroller in Central Park.

LIMITED EDITION – Our 25th Anniversary Salt Farm Coat is a limited production run, each is marked with a unique serial number identifier.

From Maine to Alaska, heavy weight cotton tarps are perhaps one of the most appreciated and commonly found “tools” on working farms and ranches. There's a reason. From covering equipment to rescuing livestock from a mud hole, it's durability and versatility are irreplaceable and legendary. We think of our Salt Farm Coat in similar terms.

Story

The Salt Farm Coat Story

Excerpt from our original 1995 catalog:

"The Ram Island Salt Farm, just south of Portland, Maine on Cape Elizabeth, sits on the east side of the tiny inlet at the top end of Higgin's Beach. Among other things, they make hay here, May through October. From the brow of the hill, the fields drop in a deliberate free-fall right down to the Atlantic. No beach there. Just rock and salt spray make the transition. In the barns above, Phineas Sprague, Jr. still restores wooden lobster boats. Every winter, for as long as anyone can recall, his father Phineas Sr., has rowed out past the point in his Barnegat Bay Sneakbox to gun for eiders. God willing, this year won't be any different."

We're bringing back this workhorse of a coat, made identical to the original save sizing adjustments and a 100% cotton shirting fabric lining. Full, boxy, sturdy...practical. Large, functional dump pockets and a collar that feels right, up, because it serves its purpose. The 100% cotton, 12oz DryHandle® fabric is weatherproof and keeps it dry and clean. Spot clean by hand using mild soap if necessary.

The 25th Anniversary Salt Farm Coat is a limited production run, and each garment is marked with a unique serial number identifier.

Comments: Good... though I think you changed the fabric weight of your flannels at some point and that threw me for a loop? I could be wrong. Seemed like the check flannels got heavier?
Autumn Standby

Of the abhorrent number of jackets I have in storage (too many to mention with good conscience)... the Salt Farm Coat is likely the most complete piece of autumn outerwear I've ever worn... in that it can do anything you need it to do.

It's earned its place next to the proud and few legends that manage to occupy the coat hooks next to the door.

The fabric is tough and resilient to elements. Yeah, this is definitely up for chores or field. And it breathes, unlike waxed cotton.

It's not something to wear if you're working in steady rain for 8 hours... but it will handle pretty much anything else.

The design of the pockets, buttons, storm flap, gussets and collar are all absolute class. Engel is in a league of his own when it comes to those details.

I'll probably order a size up at some point in the future so that I can layer underneath in the colder months.

Lastly, this is exactly the type of coat in style right now. Synthetic fibers are OUT and quality durable natural fibers are IN. The pandemic has come and gone and it's time to dress with some dignity again.

Comments: Thank you for calling me to discuss fit! I have such a hard time buying clothes in stores, much less online. Your call was greatly appreciated to ensure the fit would be good. And it is. I am so very glad and happy the AR brand has been revived and seems to be growing strong!
This in not a coat... It's armor against the elements!

First, I'd like to just say that I placed an order for this coat and not even 15 minutes later, Engle - yes, the owner - called me personally to inquire about size and fit to be sure I had ordered the correct size. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE! I couldn't be happier with this coat. I've been looking for something to wear for upland bird and duck hunting that could also handle a night out on the town with the Mrs. or a Friday night high school football game. There are just too many features to list in a brief review. But suffice it to say, you will NOT be disappointed by this coat. I am 6' 0" weighing 225 lbs with 36/37 arms. The XL size coat fits perfectly. It fits well on its own, yet has room enough to place a couple of layers underneath which I am a huge proponent of being an outdoors kinda guy. No shortage of storage and I absolutely love the huge bellow pockets for shotgun shells and gloves and keys and the kitchen sink. I have owned many similar-styled coats from Orvis, Barbour, LL Bean... This coat puts all the rest to shame. No lie... This coat and the quality contained within will last me the rest of my life. I can't wait to pair it with some blaze orange and head out into the Maine backwoods for grouse or drape it with my olive drab duck-vest and call lanyard in the Maine swamps, bogs and salt marshes. I know it sounds odd, but I simply cant wait to get this coat dirty and put it to the proverbial test. I'm sure it will perform flawlessly. Like other products from AR, this one feels like it works for you and with you with stellar freedom of movement, fit, form and function. Another well thought out product from Engle and the rest of the AR crew. Kudos!!!!

Comments: Great experience when I had questions about ordering my coat. Engle was super helpful and I enjoyed talking to him.
The Atlantic Farm Chore Coat is a great coat for sea or land farms.

Purchased my Atlantic Farm Chore coat several weeks ago. Fortunately, the weather changed in Missouri this week and I was able to wear the jacket on a cool and rainy day. Stayed dry and enjoyed the coat very much. The jacket looks good and fits very well. I was able to move around in it comfortably while finishing my chores. I have number of coats and jackets, but I really like this chore coat the best. Spoke to Engle on the phone while trying to decide on my purchase. He was very friendly and helpful. Also, my coat arrived very quickly and well packaged. I'm sure I'll be an ongoing customer of Engle and Victoria at the Atlantic Rancher Company. Highly recommend the company and its products. Give Engle a call.

Comments: Loved the customer service when I had to exchange the coat due to size. Love the quality. And love the simple, utilitarian style.
Kept me dry during a tropical storm!

An update from previous evaluation…. Just wore my Salt Farm Chore Coat out during tropical storm Hilary. The jacket kept me bone dry and drew positive comments from multiple people. This jacket performs while looking iconic.

I’ve got the boat shirt and the ranger sweater - all three are superior quality and style!

The Coat For Every Man

The Salt Ranch Coat is the perfect fit for working on our ranch. The styling provides comfort and flexibility while working with horses or climbing up into the tractor cab. This coat withstands all my ranch work, does an excellent job at cutting the wind, and consistently keeps me warm during Wyoming's spring and fall. I highly recommend the Salt Ranch Coat for anyone that is looking for a tough coat with style.
